Overall Telecom Imports
The total value of telecom imports into the nation was $248.998 million in the first quarter of FY23, down from $637.874 million in the corresponding period of FY22. This represents a decline of 60.96 percent. However, when compared year over year, the total amount of telecom imports fell by 70.89% in September 2022 to $78.846 million from $270.823 million in September 2021. On a month-over-month basis, the total amount of telecom imports fell by 22.35 percent in September 2022 from $101.537 million in August 2022. When compared to $142.914 million during the same time of the previous fiscal year, other apparatus imports decreased by 37.92 percent to $88.727 million in July–September 2022. Other apparatus stayed at $20.439 million in September 2022 and experienced negative growth of 66.93 percent when compared to September 2021’s $61.810 million and negative growth of 46.88 percent when compared to August 2022’s $38.477 million on a month-over-month basis.

In contrast, on an annual basis, mobile phone imports decreased by 69.57 percent in November 2022 compared to the same month in the previous year. In comparison to November 2022 exports of $212.058 million, the import of mobile phones was $64.520 million in November
According to the data, mobile phone imports decreased 1.92 percent on a monthly basis in November 2022 compared to US $65.780 million in imports in October 2022. It is important to note that the merchandise trade deficit fell by 30.14 percent over the first five months of the current fiscal year, dropping from $20,621 million last year to $14,406 million this year. Exports between July and November 2022 totaled $11,932 million, down from $12,362 million between July and November 2021–22, according to PBS data, a decrease of 3.48 percent. Mobile phone imports in October 2022 totaled $65.780 million vs $149.712 million in exports. Oct. 20, 2021, According to the data, mobile phone imports grew 12.62 percent month over month in October 2022 compared to September 2022, when they totaled US $58.407 million.

Pakistan’s Mobile Imports Decreased by 67% in the First Quarter of FY23
In the first quarter (July-September) of the current fiscal year 2022–23 (FY23), Pakistan imported mobile phones for $160.271 million, a fall of 67.62 percent from $494.960 million during the same time last year. According to data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), mobile phone imports fell 7.38 percent month over month (MoM), from $63.06 million in August 2022 to $58.407 million in September 2022. In September 2022, mobile phone imports decreased $72.06% year over year (YoY) from $209.013 million in the corresponding month of the previous year.
