Elantra 1.6L to be Released Soon by Hyundai-Nishat

According to reports, Hyundai-Nishat is planning to offer a 1.6L edition of the 6th generation Elantra sedan in Pakistan. The Hyundai Elantra was introduced in March of last year and comes in a single GLS model with a 2.0L engine and a 6-speed automated transmission.

Although no official information has been released, the 1.6L engine could be the Gamma II MPI, which produces 126 horsepower and 155 pound-feet of torque. The Elantra 1.6L is projected to be priced around PKR 3.6 million and will compete against the Toyota Corolla Altis 1.6, as well as the 1.5L Honda City Aspire CVT (PKR 34.54 lac) consumers.

The Elantra 1.6L will have a similar appearance to the 2.0L models, but will likely lack features like an instrument cluster display, a multimedia unit, a sunroof, and possibly even alloy wheels. The new low-cost variation will give Hyundai Elantra sales a much-needed boost in Pakistan.

It is currently Hyundai’s second best-selling car in the country, behind the Tucson crossover. In the first eight months of the current fiscal year, 1,929 Elantras have been sold, averaging 241 per month. With such stats, it poses little threat to Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla, despite the fact that the two are considered its main competitors in other markets.

The Elantra, on the other hand, is in its seventh generation, which debuted in March 2020. Hyundai-Nishat appears to have no intentions to launch the new model in Pakistan, despite the fact that it is now officially two years old.
