To recall and honor the achievements of famous Indian wrestler Ghulam Muhammad Bakhsh Butt, often known as Gama Pehlwan or The Great Gama, Google has created a Doodle to commemorate his 144th birthday.
He won a lunge competition with over 400 wrestlers from across the country in 1888. His victory at the competition made him famous throughout India’s royal realms. He didn’t start wrestling until he was 15 years old.
The Google Doodle blog stated, “By 1910, people were reading Indian newspapers with headlines glorifying Gama as a national hero and world champion.”
