The 13th iteration of the Cricket World Cup, a four-year One Day International (ODI) cricket competition contested by men’s national teams and hosted by the International Cricket Council (ICC), will take place in 2023. India will host the event, which will run from October 5 until November 19, 2023. Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, and Sri Lanka will all field national teams for the competition. The 2023 Cricket World Cup qualification process was used to advance teams to the competition, with the West Indies losing out for the first time in their history. The 2019 edition was won by England, who defeated New Zealand in the final to become the reigning champions. India will be the only nation to host the men’s Cricket World Cup; before, the event was co-hosted by other nations in the Indian subcontinent in 1987, 1996, and 2011. Ten different venues will host the competition. While the final will be staged in Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the first and second semi-finals will take place at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and Eden Gardens in Kolkata, respectively.

Venues

The competition will be held in ten different stadiums in India. While the final will be staged in Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the first and second semi-finals will take place at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and Eden Gardens in Kolkata, respectively. Stadium upgrades and improvements have been funded by the BCCI. The seating area, hospitality boxes, drainage system, and grass pitch of the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium have all been upgraded. Upgrades to the outfield, floodlights, corporate boxes, and restrooms were all present at Wankhede Stadium. New floodlights were erected at M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, and two wickets were redone. All World Cup stadiums were told by the ICC to maintain boundary distances of at least 70 meters. According to legend, the “Dew factor” and coin toss can affect a match’s outcome.ICC seeks to reduce it. Additionally, they gave pitch curators instructions to leave grass on the fields.

Squads

Prior to September 28, all sides were expected to complete their 15-player squads; any substitutions made after this date required ICC consent. By September 26, 2023, all squads have been revealed. Wesley Barresi, a Dutch player who was 39 years old, was the tournament’s oldest participant, and Afghan spinner Noor Ahmad, who was 18 years old, was the youngest.
