(PLGMEA) has urged the government to allow export-oriented companies in Punjab to work in double shifts and remove them from shutdown restrictions on Saturdays so that export orders can be fulfilled on time. PLGMEA Chief Syed Nadeem Abbas noted that export-oriented units were fully aware of Covid-19 and were rigorously adhering to the government’s SOPs in a statement released on Saturday. He claimed that if the employees were permitted to work double shifts, social distancing during industrial operations may be improved. This will enable the units to maintain their current worker levels and prevent layoffs during this crucial period. He claimed that the Covid-19 situation had exporters extremely upset and eager to fulfill any outstanding export orders as soon as possible. He contended that extended working hours will enable them to send shipments on schedule and prevent enormous financial losses. By permitting the export-oriented industries to continue operating throughout the Covid-19 lockout, according to Abbas, the government had made significant progress. However, this alleviation should also apply on Saturdays, as the industry anticipates a 30 percent export loss under the current conditions. He insisted that the export business was the foundation of the economy, creating a significant amount of revenue and employment.
“Closing businesses and other economic ventures is not a way to stop the spread of Covid-19. In order to assure both the continuity of enterprises and people’s safety, it is crucial that we take protective and preventative actions. He emphasized the necessity for group efforts to reduce the risks posed by the coronavirus in order to achieve sustainable socioeconomic development.
